SHANE TARGETT MSc FMA

Shane Targett graduated from RAF College Cranwell, England in 1981 and trained as a fixed-wing jet pilot before transferring to Supply Chain Duties in 1983. For the next 17 years, he served on UK and overseas and was decorated for active service. He graduated from Exeter University with an MSc in Logistics Engineering in 1993 and pioneered cost-optimisation in the UK Defence Ministry. He left the RAF as a senior officer in 1999.

Shane also assisted the “New” South African Air Force (SAAF) on an exchange appointment administered by the British High Commission in Pretoria. He developed a national IT support system, then negotiated, implemented and managed new Service Level Agreements - in the Afrikaans – a language which he taught himself. Shane was awarded formal recognition from the Chief of the Air Force for the operational improvements he achieved (on lower budgets) and then received a commendation from the Chief of the National Defence Force when the remaining services adopted Shane’s support model.
Since 2000 Shane has provided training in inventory optimisation methods and consulted using advanced tools and techniques. He has helped military organisations to optimise their existing resources and OEMs to win Performance-Based Logistics (PBL) contracts.
In 2002 Shane co-founded GIODE Ltd providing training and consultancy worldwide. Working on military Land, Sea and Air projects he consults on a diverse array of civil projects including Communication, Energy, Manufacturing and Transportation (Land, Sea and Air). He has continuously operated throughout the entire Support Chain in 20 nations on 4 continents over 25 years working in: Procurement, Depot Storage, Maintenance Repair and Overhaul, Operational Support, Stock Taking, Inventory Control and Inventory Planning, Road, Sea and Air transport and contract bidding and selection and negotiation.

Shane is also a permanent Faculty member at Cranfield University in UK lecturing in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management and Logistics. He specialises in Supply Chain optimisation, Whole Life Cost Management and Performance-Based Logistics
